Tour description
Departing from Budapest we drive you to the western side of Hungary and arrive to Pannonhalma after one and a half hours. In 996 Prince Géza settled Benedictine monks at Pannonhalma. The basilica of the Abbey is one of the masterpieces of the medieval Hungarian architecture and it is surrounded by the building of the monastery.
During a guided walking tour through the Basilica, the Crypt, the Closter and the Library and of course by watching a fifteen-minute film you can get acquainted with the life of the Benedictine community. After the interior visit of Pannonhalma Archabbey you can enjoy the wonderful panorama from the Saint Martin Hill.
The buildings of the Archabbey and the surrounding area were officially declared a part of the World Heritage in 1996.
