About this tour

Full description

Overview

A Magic combination: First explore Gödöllő Palace, the former summer residence of Queen Elisabeth and Francis Joseph, then enjoy the carriage ride and traditional horse show with breathtaking elements.

Tour description

Visit the beautiful Baroque Palace in Gödöllő. (It takes only 30 minutes to get there.) Its builder, Count Antal Grassalkovich I was a typical figure of the Hungarian aristocracy during Maria Theresia’s reign (Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary). The palace has a double U shape and is surrounded by an enormous park.

After the Grassalkovich family’s male side’s extinction, the palace had different owners, and it was bought back by the Hungarian state only in 1867. It was fully renovated and given to Francis Joseph (Habsburg emperor & Hungarian king 1867-1916) and Queen Elisabeth (Sisi). The royal decades’ period also brought its enlargements and modifications.

The guided tour in the palace gives you a glimpse of times under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With the help of our guide you will become acquainted with the secrets of the private life, hidden doors, bedrooms and lovers of the royal couple.

After the interior visit of the palace, we drive to a traditional Farm where you will be welcomed with Hungarian “pogácsa” and the national welcome drink, “pálinka”. Horsemen will take you for a carriage ride and will invite you to a traditional Horse Show. The most unique part of the show is the so called “Puszta five formation” when a horseman is standing and balancing on two horses and conducting three more in front of him.

The tour ends in the city centre.
